Thank U, Next is the fifth studio album by American singer Ariana Grande, released on February 8, 2019, featuring chart-topping singles like “Thank U, Next,” “7 Rings,” and “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored.”

The design process began with listening to the music and exploring the emotions it evoked through expressive mark-making. Paint was used to interpret the melodies and tempos of the songs, capturing the rhythm and movement inspired by the music. These studies formed the foundation for the artwork.

The album cover uses typography to convey Grande's music. Words and lyrics from her songs are layered and blended into abstract forms, transforming sound into typographic art. The layered text symbolises how Grande layers her vocal tracks, adding depth and texture to her music. A gradient applied to some of the text represents the nuanced, subtle layers of Grande's voice, which become apparent only through attentive listening.
